When we fit a new boiler we ensure that all the current regulations are met and that all best practice is incorporated into the design and insallation. This may include ensuring proper control of timing and temperature. Fitting a filter to the return pipe back to the boiler, powerflushing the central heating system to protect the new boiler and ensure maximum performance. Adding an inhibitor to protect the heating system.

What is a combination boiler?

This is a boiler that will heat both central heating and hot water, giving the heating of the water priority at any given time. It provides instant hot water ie. It heats the water as its being drawn off at the tap therefore stored hot water is not required saving space and requiring less parts to install. They come in various sizes (heat outputs) and cater mostly for the smaller properties with one bathroom although in a lot of cases depending on the heat output of the boiler can be suitable for larger properties.

What is a Regular boiler?

A regular or conventional boiler will heat your central heating system directly and produce hot water for your cylinder, a typical regular boiler system incorporates a boiler, extended controls, ie an independant pump, valves, wiring control centre, etc. This system also requires a hot water cylinder which is usually fed by a cold water storage cistern and the boiler requires a feed and expansion tank both of these are usually located in the loft. This type of system is suitable for larger properties and families generally with two bathrooms or more.

What is a system boiler and unvented hot water?

A system boiler heats your central heating system directly and produces hot water for your cylinder, it works just like a regular boiler works on the principle of stored hot water. A system boiler differs from a regular in some important respects. Many of the major individual components of the heating and hot water system are built into a system boiler which means that installation is quicker, neater, easier and more efficient. The hot water is pumped from the system boiler through the heating system to the radiators and hot water cylinder resulting in a fast response and more economical running costs. The system boiler removes the need for a feed and expansion cistern.

A system boiler can be used in conjunction with a pressurized hot water cylinder (unvented) this will require a little more investment in further parts and labour costs. What it means to you is that the cold water from the mains is fed directly into the hot water cylinder in a controlled manner and is delivered at the hot water taps at mains pressure equal to the cold taps water pressure at all outlets. More space is required to accommodate the extra controls required with Unvented hot water systems.

Unvented hot water systems should be maintained anually by way of a service due to the set up of the mechanical safety devices you need to ensure the safety devices operate correctly.
